Overview

This is a pro-bono volunteer position.

 

JerseySTEM is looking for talented professionals across our departments to commit time and energy as long-term engagement for our mission to provide STEM education to underrepresented middle school girls.

 

The PODS (PrOgram DeSign) Head of Curriculum Development and Program Instructors Training provides leadership, direction and planning to identify and develop curriculum appropriate to further the mission of JerseySTEM. Curricula developed by PODS is delivered/taught by College Students who are the Volunteer Program Instructors (non professional educators).

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of 4-5 direct reports in charge of specific subjects (Coding, Lab sciences, Engineering,...)
  • Partner with HUCA to hire new/replacements
  • Work to continuously improve and streamline JerseySTEM’s approach to Curriculum Design as well as implementation of Outreach Programs
  • Collaborate with the College Engagement to ensure alignment between the Volunteer College students we recruit and the material they will need to teach.
  • Collaborate with the Corporate Engagement to ensure alignment between the Curriculum we develop and the interests of the corporate sponsors.
  • Represents PODS at the Leadership Team. Participate in the leadership team activities of budgeting/planning and reporting.
  • Participate and work with other JerseySTEM leadership to map-out strategic approaches for growth of JerseySTEM 
  • Partner with Marketing to ensure they are supporting our initiatives where it makes sense
  • As time permits, meet with strategic groups in organization to see how we can be more efficient
  • Conduct/Attend virtual  team meetings weekly : (Sundays 9pm EST)

Qualifications

  • Genuine concern about/interest in solving the STEM education gender gap
  • Strong leadership/team building skills
  • Resourceful, can-do attitude
  • Experience with K-12 schools as a parent, former student professionally
  • Outreach experience preferred
  • Experience leading a function (i.e. team, department manager, etc) and managing others
  • Comfort working in a ‘virtual organization’ with digital tools (G-Suite, Slack, Jira, salesforce)
  • Would be a plus if candidate has flexible schedule to allow for day time calls with the school admins during the work week

 

Time Commitment 

 

  • 3-6 Hours weekly
  • 6 months minimum
