JerseySTEM is a mission-driven professional network of pro-bono contributors dedicated to improving access to STEM education and career pathways for underserved middle school girls in New Jersey.

Members contribute their professional skills and leverage their networks in service of the organization’s gender-equity agenda.

Membership is a minimum six-month commitment of approximately six flexible hours per week and includes a $100 refundable deposit, returned after six months of active membership. K–12 educators, retirees, veterans, interns, and students are exempt from the deposit.

Overview

This is a pro-bono volunteer position.

 

JerseySTEM is looking for talented professionals across our departments to commit time and energy as long-term engagement for our mission to provide STEM education to underrepresented middle school girls.

 

The Operational Excellence Department Head identifies and implements best practices and operational effectiveness/efficiencies for work management at JerseySTEM. They will manage a team of Agile Coaches, Scrum Masters, JIRA SME, Slack SME and Process Specialist.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies work management improvements at JerseySTEM, ranging from the better use of the tools available to redesigning value stream workflows.
  • Manage a team of 3-4 direct reports in charge of managing the scrum teams, creating JIRA & Slack user training along with creating process documentation.
  • Create and work with teams to adopt best practices to be utilized throughout the organization.
  • Streamline work & siloing to ensure scrum teams are working as efficiently as possible.
  • Partner with HUCA to hire new replacements.
  • Work to continuously improve and streamline JerseySTEM’s approach to successful utilize Scrum and Kanban boards.
  • Represents OPEX at the Leadership Team.
  • Participate in the leadership team activities of budgeting/planning and reporting.
  • Conduct/Attend virtual leadership team meetings weekly : (Tuesdays 6:30pm)
  • Conduct/Attend virtual monthly Scrum of Scrum meetings (time varies each month)

Qualifications

  • Genuine concern about/interest in solving the STEM education gender gap.
  • Strong leadership/team building skills.
  • Self Organization skills, leading others to understand their responsibilities and guide them into action.
  • Encourage full transparency and communication.
  • Open mindset that welcomes and encourages ideas from members of the team/organization.
  • Trust in your reportees and treat them with no micromanaging.
  • Good listener .
  • Ability to mentor team members.
  • Accepts frequent change and adopting these changes accordingly.
  • Resourceful, can-do attitude.
  • Experience leading a function (i.e. team, department manager, etc) and managing others.
  • Comfort working in a ‘virtual organization’ with digital tools (G-Suite, Slack, Jira, salesforce).
  • Would be a plus if candidate has flexible schedule to allow for flexibility when scheduling meetings.
  • Agile/Scrum experience of 5-7 years.
  • Agile Transformation experience.
