About JerseySTEM

All JerseySTEM roles are pro-bono (unpaid) positions.

JerseySTEM is a mission-driven professional network of pro-bono contributors dedicated to improving access to STEM education and career pathways for underserved middle school girls in New Jersey.

Members contribute their professional skills and leverage their networks in service of the organization’s gender-equity agenda.

Membership is a minimum six-month commitment of approximately six flexible hours per week and includes a $100 refundable deposit, returned after six months of active membership. K–12 educators, retirees, veterans, interns, and students are exempt from the deposit.

This is a pro-bono volunteer position for Candidates connected with JerseySTEM through www.Catchafire.org

 

Join us in making a difference and empowering young girls in their STEM journey! At JerseySTEM, we welcome professionals, active or retired, who are interested in contributing their professional skills to our mission of providing STEM education to middle school girls in underrepresented communities.

As a JerseySTEM volunteer, you have the opportunity to contribute your unique skills and interests to support our cause. Together, we can create a brighter future for the next generation of female leaders in STEM.

 

This Board Role Volunteer role allows you to support our organization in various capacities based on your skills, interests, and availability. these roles are best suited for individuals:

- Available to volunteer until the end of the school year (next June)

- Able to dedicate 4-6 hours/week of remote volunteering

- Willing to attend at least one remote meeting/week to coordinate/align

 

 

Responsibilities

Depending on their background and interests, our 300 volunteers perform any of the following:

  • Curriculum Development: Develop STEM related labs/workshops for middle schoolers
  • Sponsors: Manage relationship with sponsors, make presentations, showcase the work of their employees as volunteers
  • Administration: Organize and manage our Memoranda of understanding with our partner schools
  • Finance/Accounting: Manage Quickbooks
  • Technology: Integrate SaaS based applications using REST technologies, manage the Google Workspace, administer Salesforce
  • Data: develop dashboards using MySQL and Looker Reports (or manage volunteers doing that)
  • Agile and Project Management: Roll out Agile principles by acting as an Agile Coach of a ScrumMaster
  • Marketing: Copy editing, graphic design, email-marketing campaigns management,  contribute to content creation and social media management to increase our online presence.
  • Human Resources: On-boarding specialists, recruiters, sourcers, employee manuals, manage relationships with agencies and partner organizations
  • Grants: Research or write grants, manage communication/relationships with grantors
  • Development: Support fundraising initiatives and campaigns to help raise funds for our programs.
  • College Engagement: Engage with students and mentors to create a positive learning environment.
  • Events: Help with event coordination and logistics, plan field trips

Qualifications

  • Passion for/interest in promoting gender equality and STEM education.
  • Availability to commit (remotely) 4-6 hours per week for 6 months (about one school semester) based on your schedule.
  • Experience working in a professional/ corporate setting in a project structure, with due dates, deadlines. deliverables.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, as an individual contributor, or as a team lead.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and adapting to new challenges.
  • Good computer and digital cloud literacy: Gmail/Google Docs.
