All JerseySTEM roles are pro-bono (unpaid) positions.
JerseySTEM is a non-profit organization that provides free after-school instruction in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) related disciplines to middle school girls in underserved communities in New Jersey in order to interest girls to study and potentially become employed in jobs in STEM related professions. Current programs are established in Robotics, Engineering, Chemistry and Biology.
We seek currently enrolled college students in New Jersey for a Community Service Opportunity to serve as Program Instructors (PIs). The commitment is for a minimum 3 hours/week for 10 weeks in the Fall and/or Spring semesters to deliver an onsite class at a middle school (Plainfield Community Outreach) one time per week.
JerseySTEM provides PIs with full training on the content that will be taught, and support to deliver the program. These are volunteer positions, There is free transportation available to take you to the middle schools in your area.
As a Program Instructor, you will play a pivotal role in delivering engaging and effective STEM-focused lessons and activities to middle school students of various skill levels. Your main responsibilities include:
